Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten students speak five languages and represent six countries! My students are curious, energetic, and they love learning.
My students spend their day learning in both English and Spanish.
We are a low income, dual language community school, where everyone knows each other. They have built such a close community and really help one another grow as friends and learners. They do not always have all of the resources they need at home, but they care so much about learning.
My Project
My students adore reading. If given the choice, my students would choose looking at books over any other activity!
We are a trauma sensitive school.
I am to make my classroom as calming and nurturing as possible. Sometimes, students of trauma just need to remove themselves from a situation for a minute before they join the class again. This tent and carpet could be used during reading time, but could also serve as a "getaway" spot for a struggling child where I can still see them and know they are safe.
Our school is very charming. It was built in the early 1900s and has beautiful hardwood floors. While I love the look of them, they aren't very comfy to sit on! The carpet and cushions would help make this spot extra cozy as they read!
I love that my students love to read and I want to help encourage that with a cozy place to do so!
