Help me give my students a Hygge inspired cozy classroom environment filled with beautiful, natural materials that offer a comforting memorable environment to learn and grow.
In April 2024, I attended the Miaeyc conference for Early Childhood in Grand Rapids, Michigan. One of the lectures I took was called "Make it More than a Cozy Corner-Let's talk about Hygge". The class was run by Cheryl Priest and it was the most inspiring lecture about making the entire classroom a beautiful, cozy and memorable space for not only students but also for yourself. The presenter continued to describe Hygge pronounced (hoo-ga) to us and it is best described as coziness. It is all of the things that make us happy and feel good inside such as looking at holiday lights on a tree, or listening to the birds on a nature walk. Students will benefit from these resources by providing many opportunities for social interactions that are positive and memorable. The fairy nets and pillows & lights will provide a warm inviting space to read with a friend. The wooden tea sets, hair salon and barber sets, and other playsets will allow for purposeful play that students will interact in positive ways with each other. A kitchen center and market stand will allow for imaginative play that encourages social interactions and encourage language skills. The classroom bulletin board items, fairy lights, jars, and plant wall panels are to create a calm and cozy space for children to love learning in.
All of the items I am requesting are all natural and beautiful pieces to incorporate into my classroom to provide students and myself with inspirational learning opportunities through play.
I have chosen unique and highly enticing materials to provide students those happy moments to remember about school and learning.
I would like to create an environment for my students that radiates coziness, happiness and comfort while also providing learning activities that students are excited to engage in.
