I've had a rug for 3 years and it simply doesn't look how it used to. This rug is a replacement and it will continue to show students that this is a warm space created for them. We have old flooring that is, for lack of a better word, ugly, and it looks dirty. Having a floor like this communicates to students that they don't matter because the building seems run down. The rug designates a calm space where students can work away from others. It also gives students a space to sit on the floor. Sometimes, this is really necessary and helpful to students having a hard day. It also creates a space for students to relax after school when I host my club.
It is important to create a classroom space that communicates to students that they are welcomed and supported!
These stools are the perfect height to be used at the desk while also offering limited movement. Limited movement is important because it helps students stay focused without the seat turning into a distraction. These are young students who are still developing their skills in sitting still. These are the best fidget because they engage the whole body and they are silent. They keep students seating and working at their desks without interfering with those around it. This year, I have more students interested in using stools. I have 10 and it simply isn't enough. I have seen the positive impact of these stools for the three years I've had them and I am still a big believer in this useful tool. Students love them and they are truly so supportive of my wiggly 6th graders!
