My Students

Hi! We teach a Second Grade ICT Class in Queens. The class consists of a dynamic and spunky bunch of 30 students. Many of our students come from non-English speaking homes, and we are a Title I school, meaning many of the children are from low-income households.

Many of our students come from single parent homes in housing projects, and we aim to make our classroom feel like a second home to our students!

The reality is that our students spend more hours in their classroom and after school centers than they do in their own homes.

My Project

Each and every day begins with a gathering on the carpet. It sets the tone for our entire day. Following this, the students transition around the room, but ultimately return back to the carpet for lessons.

The children spend many hours on the classroom carpet each day.

Our current carpet is over 10 years old, and it is stained and quite dirty. We would love to enhance our classroom, while making it more comfortable and clean for our students. Often times, the children are sprawled out across the carpet to read, write, or work collaboratively on a project. Having a new, clean carpet would make this a much nicer experience.
