My Project
As a fourth-grade teacher at a Title I school, I recently transitioned from teaching 2nd grade to a new school and new grade level. Unfortunately, I arrived to a classroom with very limited supplies. One essential item was missing: a classroom carpet.
A carpet may seem simple, but in my classroom, it represents so much more than just a place to sit.
It’s where we build community through restorative circles, gather for whole-group lessons, and form strong relationships through small group instruction. It creates a welcoming space that promotes comfort, choice, and a sense of belonging, especially important in a high-needs school environment.
The inspiration for this project came when one of my students said, “I wish we had a carpet to work on. It would be so much more comfortable.” That small comment spoke volumes.
With your support, I’m requesting two carpets: one for whole-group instruction and restorative conversations, and another smaller carpet for small groups and flexible seating. These additions will help transform our classroom into a warm, inviting, and engaging space where students feel comfortable learning and connecting.
