I am a third year teacher. I teach at a low income, high poverty school district. My students arrive with very few supplies. They face many challenges to their learning each day. Regardless, they are very creative and love to learn.
My students are incredibly enthusiastic learners, always excited to use new materials I bring to the classroom.
As a teacher in a low-income district, I am struggling to find materials for my students.
My students appreciate when I bring in something new for them to use. Their eyes light up and excited questions are asked when I sort through new supplies or bring out new materials.
My Project
My classroom serves students from all types of backgrounds. We need a cozy space to calm down students who are having moments of extreme stress. A calm space is an important for students dealing with trauma.
My students would like to have a calm down area in my classroom with a large carpet that they can sit or lay on.
In this space the students can use different calming techniques they have learned to help regulate their emotions. Students can take some time away from an overstimulating activity or frustrating task in this space. Having a space inside the classroom keeps students with their peers.
