Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have 10 special needs students with autism that are hard working, playful and energetic. What make them special is their sense of humor and their love for books cozy places to play and have fun. However, they can experience challenging emotions as they learn to self-regulate through play and taking breaks when needed. Calming are will for example, support them in learning to take breaks and build self-regulation skills.
This calming area and sensory materials will make a difference because my students will have a cozy calming area to go to when they need to lower their anxiety and regulate their emotions.
My students will have a place to breathe and de-escalate while playing with materials that they enjoy. for example, they will dress up as their favorite community worker or sit on the bean bag and watch a lava lamp moving up and down, helping them relax and distract from the escalating emotions and behaviors.
