This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are part of a specialized program on a general education campus. I work with students with emotional disturbance. This population is volatile and needs a classroom full of love and sense of community.
My students are strong willed, enthusiastic, and full of love.
They enjoy coming to school in person twice a week and really enjoy being able to spend time together. They work hard day in and day out.
My Project
All of my students are working through behaviors that impede their learning. Often my students need a place to gather themselves and right now my classroom is lacking this. I really want my students to have an area to be able to work through their emotions. Facilitating this calm down area for them would encourage them to use their coping skills and take a break. They would be able to stay in the room and not have to leave like they are doing now because of the lack of a break area.
