This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a Title I school district, I recognize that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am trying to provide my students with numerous opportunities to be active and to teach them healthy eating habits.
An active lifestyle combined with healthy eating will allow my students to become better learners.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch to ensure they have at least two healthy meals each school day. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly influence their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire my students to be active every day as well as establish healthy eating habits early on so they can continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
At our school, we have three sports teams: Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer. Each of these sports requires quickness combined with some explosive movement. To better train our student athletes, we need some training barbells to incorporate fundamental movements such as squats, bench press, deadlifts, and even hang cleans.
To incorporate these fundamental lifts into our student athletes training regime, we need barbells that are lite weight so our students can experience weight training at a low resistance level.
My students do not have weightlifting equipment at home so having a fitness center on campus will provide our student athletes with a safe place to work out. I can educate them on the various types of exercise equipment, the proper form for each lift, and proper usage for the equipment. From there students will develop their muscular endurance by partaking in various body weight circuit training routines. Lastly, students will start to increase their muscular strength by adding resistance to their workouts which will increase their overall athleticism.
