This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a Title I school district, I recognize that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am trying to provide my students with numerous opportunities to be active and to teach them healthy eating habits.
An active lifestyle combined with healthy eating will allow my students to become better learners.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch to ensure they have at least two healthy meals each school day. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly influence their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire my students to be active every day as well as establish healthy eating habits early on so they can continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
At our school, we have three sports teams: volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Each of these sports requires quickness combined with some explosive movement, so we train with medicine balls and slam balls. However, we do not have an efficient way to store them when they are not in use. Please help me teach my students that there is "A place for everything and everything in its place." My students like to leave their medicine balls and slam balls lying around, instead of returning them to the side of the room where they got them from.
Please help me add some storage trees to our fitness center that will establish a designated spot for our medicine balls and slam balls which will hopefully help my students learn to return things when they're done using them.
That's where these storage trees come in. A messy weight room is an unsafe weight room. Please help my students maintain a safe workout environment, teach them to be organized, and continue their pursuit of an active and healthy lifestyle. My students do not have weightlifting equipment at home so having a fitness center on campus provides our student athletes with a safe place to work out. I can educate them on the various types of exercise equipment, the proper form for each lift, proper usage for the equipment, as well as cleaning up after ourselves.
