This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a Title I school district, I recognize that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am trying to provide my students with numerous opportunities to be active and to teach them healthy eating habits.
An active lifestyle combined with healthy eating will allow my students to become better learners.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch to ensure they have at least two healthy meals each school day. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly influence their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire my students to be active every day as well as establish healthy eating habits early on so they can continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
At our school, we have three sports teams: Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer. Each of these sports requires quickness combined with some explosive movement. To better train our student athletes, I want to incorporate some resistance training in the form of bands. Resistance bands allow students to develop their muscular strength without the potential of adding too much weight to soon and risking injury. These bands will help those who are not ready for the dumbbells or barbells just yet as well as offer another option for our student athletes to use for their workout.
Please help me add some resistance bands to our fitness center and provide our student athletes with another option for their training regime.
My students do not have weightlifting equipment at home so having a fitness center on campus will provide our student athletes with a safe place to work out. I can educate them on the various types of exercise equipment, the proper form for each lift, and proper usage for the equipment. From there students will develop their muscular endurance by partaking in various body weight circuit training routines. Lastly, students will start to increase their muscular strength by adding resistance to their workouts which will increase their overall athleticism.
