This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I want my classroom to be a place students want to come every day, not have to come every day. After the past year, this has been a challenge with distance and hybrid learning schedules due to the pandemic.
Each student is different, each year is different, and this is why I love my job.
I love being able to figure out what makes my students excited to come to school every day, which activities makes them learn, and how I can help or possibly inspire them to reach their full potential.
My school is located in South Los Angeles where 100% of the students receive free lunch. My school is a Performing Arts Magnet, so the students come from a variety of homes all over Los Angeles County from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
I have some parents that are teachers, some that are construction workers, and some that work more than one job to make ends meet. What they all have in common is a desire to give their child the best education possible.
My Project
I love reading good literature with my students. Some of my (and my student's) favorites are "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing", "Bud, Not Buddy", "In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson", and "Holes". These titles are a staple in my fourth grade classroom. When Covid-19 hit and we switched to distance learning, I did not want my students to miss out, so I sent these books home. Unfortunately, not all my students returned the books at the end of the school year.
I would like my incoming group of fourth graders to be able to enjoy these titles, so I need some replacement copies.
