My Students

I am the Mental Health Specialist for children K-8th grade. The students that I work with have special needs, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We work on using coping strategies when feeling strong emotions to help regulate emotions so the students are able to be successful academically.

My Project

The current Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on everyone's mental health, especially children and teens. Children and teens need a calming space and tools to use to help them regulate their depression and anxiety in order to be successful academically. Students will be able to use these items to express their emotions through art, sand trays, and other creative outlets. These items can also be used to help students express their emotions. They will also help assist in their coping abilities so they can regulate their emotions through mindfulness, sensory items, or heavy work to help them cope with strong emotions in helpful ways and be able to return to learning in the classroom.
