This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My seventh and eighth-grade students are an exuberant bunch of teens who love to socialize and have fun. My students are diversity personified from painfully shy to audacious, from studious to silly, from spoiled to neglected, from being treasured to experiencing trauma.
The pandemic has hit them hard: their natural exuberance has taken a hit because they are isolated from their friends and teachers.
Many of them are developing anxieties that may potentially take years to overcome. Getting back to normal can't come soon enough—we need to mitigate the learning loss and social isolation they are currently experiencing. Unfortunately, many of them have lost close family members to COVID and are struggling with grief as well. Although I can't solve these problems, I can do my very best to provide my students with learning opportunities that will excite them and allow them to focus on better days ahead.
My Project
As we begin to contemplate what returning to in-person learning will look like, I know I need to corral all the resources I can to make my classroom as safe as possible. That's why I'm asking for your help to equip my classroom with some classroom basics, such as Kleenex tissues, pencils, disinfecting spray, and facemasks.
A few of the items are specifically for my technology classroom: the rechargeable air duster will help us keep our computer components clean and, because it's rechargeable, is a sustainable alternative to canned air.
The flash drives will come in very handy when it's time to transfer files to our 3D printers. Lastly, I'm asking for modeling clay and a stop motion animation guidebook so students can create their own iMovies with clay figures they create.
Thanks so much for considering our project. With the generous match from Kleenex, I'm hopeful that my students will be able to stay healthy and create amazing projects with the materials included in this project.
