My Students
We have a school population of almost 800 students, and one hundred percent of the students are living in apartments. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 85% of our students receiving free lunch. Students have the option to receive free breakfast daily through a program at the school that is open to all students.
Our school has a diverse population of students from various countries who speak a variety of different languages.
Many students will come to our school for the first time and have never learned to speak English. I have assisted our school in providing a variety of resources such as weekend food bags for students, free eye care and exams, dental screenings, a free food pantry, and a clothing closet.
My Project
With the use of reusable water bottles the students will instantly be making environmentally friendly changes in their daily lives. These reusable items will help create less trash waste on our school campus and beyond.
My students have been working on projects emphasizing ways to decrease waste, water, and energy usage at our middle school.
We have been auditing our schools trash and water usage to come up with ways to make changes at our school. In our trash audit, we found that there were many discarded water bottles, straws and sandwich bags which can be changed by using reusable containers.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
