This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood where 100% of the students receive free lunch. My class is very diverse; it consists of Latin and Asian English learners, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Filipinos.
Even when faced with COVID-19 Pandemic and mask wearing at school my students are always enthusiastic and eager to learn.
There are many different living arrangements and family structures within my students' families. They are scholars who understand the importance of hard work and perseverance, and they always try their best to reach their goals. Their parents are eager and will do all they can to try to give their children the very best education possible at home. They also rely on our school and our teachers to help fulfill their American Dream, since they spend most of their time working to provide for the family.
My Project
Now that learning has transitioned back to on campus, we need storage containers and shelves for students to put their personal materials that cannot be touched or used by others.
COVID-19 Pandemic has changed how we operate at school, materials are not to be shared, and students need to have their own cubby for their belongings.
We need a shelf that has individual slots for all my students so that they can put their books and backpacks away. It will also serve as an area where I can put any fliers that need to go home to their parents.
My students need to practice and learn about wellness due to COVID-19 and we will have lessons to learn about personal space for materials and how it is important that we are not sharing materials at this moment.
