We have 67 students with a variety of needs and abilities. As a school in Sandy, Utah we have students from all socioeconomic backgrounds that require different learning approaches, especially through a COVID-19 pandemic. We have THREE teachers on our team with a variety of years of teaching, but in need of supplies and materials to teach an effective math lesson. It is difficult to have the appropriate resources and materials to address all the differentiated needs of all of these individual students.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, our students have gaps in the math understanding in a variety of topics.
Math manipulatives are essential for each fifth grader in their overall concrete understanding of key mathematical concepts. In addition, we need storage containers to house individual sets of math manipulatives.
As a grade level, we are focusing on improving overall math scores through more hands-on discovery based learning. Our ending goal is improve our overall scores on state level testing.
Our students are intrigued with anything math and love to explore a variety of strategies to solve a problem.
My Project
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our students have shown an increased gap in their mathematical understanding. These resources will help with their academic learning.
These Fraction Bar tiles will enable us to give EACH student their own fraction bar tiles to solidify their concrete knowledge and understanding of the fifth grade core standards regarding fractions.
An additional resource, will be student storage bins that will house these individual manipulatives and other student resources, helping eliminate germs that could be spread throughout the classroom and ease our students' fears and worries.
