Covering World Events in the Speech Room

Help me give my students Lenovo Chromebooks which will allow them to create summaries of current events by typing or using talk-to-text features.

My Students

My school is part of a district that is comprised of 5 preschool through 5th grade schools and two middle schools. We are located in southern Illinois.

My students are a diverse group of students from kindergarten through fifth grade with speech and language delays or disorders.

They have goals that address articulation, receptive and expressive language, social language and executive function skills. The students love coming to the speech room and work hard for the time that they are with me.

My Project

Many of my students have deficits in communication, both verbal and written. I want to give my students the chance to learn about current events and improve their writing skills at the same time.

The two Chromebooks will allow my students to summarize the stories they read in the TIME For Kids magazines using the talk-to-text features or typing.

Having the ability to type their answers or using the talk-to-text features will be beneficial for my students that also have fine motor difficulties. My students love learning about events happening in the world, but have difficulty summarizing those events in writing.
