At our school, we have the opportunity to service not only some of the most amazing students, but some of the most amazing student athletics. The students we service, attend a Title I school east of the Anacostia River in our nation's capital. Many of them lack the opportunity to engage in team sports because they live in an economically underserved neighborhood of the city.
We seek to develop the athletic, academic, and life skills of our student-athletes while promoting character, physical fitness, and a healthy lifestyle.
Our program works to develop all areas of the students by being taught to play baseball in a non-judgmental environment, focusing on the effort and improvement of each individual regardless of personal skill level. We are dedicated to unlocking the potential of our student-athletes through our after-school programming. We strive to deliver a program that will teach our players personal integrity and accountability.
My Project
For many of the students we serve, our after-school baseball program is the only opportunity they have to play a team sport. It is an opportunity for them to play an organized sport with their peers in a safe and structured setting. Like many schools where funding for extracurricular activities has been cut, our team lacks the funding to purchase the equipment they need to field a full team and play competitively. The lack of funds and resources includes our team having bases for their baseball field.
Our students cannot equitably compete against other teams when they lack the fundamental equipment like bases for their field.
Having bases will allow for our team to have a regulation field where they will be able to host home games. The rubber bases will be used on a daily basis for practice. The mounted bases will be mounted and utilized during home games.
Every student deserves to have the opportunity to participate in an athletic program, regardless of their zip code. These bases will help to level the playing field for our students so all their bases are covered.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
