This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I am teaching Technology! I am teaching classes from PK-5th. While I'm teaching an array of grades, most of the classes are from PK-2nd Grade. Majority of the students in the school are Hispanic/Latino and many of them speak in Spanish when they are at home.

With economic disadvantages, all students are receiving both breakfast and lunch in school.

After surveying my classes, it appears that most students are without computer access once they get home. Those who do have access are using their parent/guardian's cell phone or a tablet that is shared within the family.

Over the past 2 weeks I have been floored with the amount of enthusiasm these students have been showing towards learning computer science!

My Project

We are fortunate enough to have a class set of i-pads and have been using Nearpod to engage in our lessons interactively. While the lessons are highly engaging and provide great data on progress, we are without i-pad covers that fit properly.

When we received the i-pads in our class, a larger sized case was given and this makes it very difficult for us to use the i-pads efficiently.

The volume often gets stuck in a locked position, and students are constantly having to reboot their sessions.

Getting supportive i-pad covers that match our devices, will help our interactive learning experiences flourish. We will all be able to be at the same parts of the lesson without having to reboot and miss out or wait for others to get logged in again.
