Cover Crops for Protection

Help me give my students cover crop seeds, hoses and sprayers so we can protect our garden beds over the summer.

My Project

We do not have in-ground beds at our farm, but we have lots of raised beds that get very weedy over the long summer. By planting cover crops like clover, vetch and radish, I will not have to worry about weeding or watering over the summer and the beds will be ready for planting as soon as school starts in August. When a new group of students come into class in the Fall, we will mulch the cover crop into the soil of the bed, add more potting mix on top and plant all the plants so we can eat!

Cover crops are very important for weed suppression, nutrient injection and water retention in both fields and raised beds.

These supplies to be able to grow cover crops will make our beds more nutritious for the future vegetables and herbs we will plant next Fall. We desperately need a new hose, sprayer and holder so that we can properly water all our beds. We unfortunately do not have the infrastructure that is able to have irrigation but hand watering works as well.
