Help me give my students counters needed to make them proficient in math by building foundational concepts and skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are SPECIAL! They are loving children in the truest sense. They show kindness to one another multiple times a day on a daily basis. Sometimes, like most children (or people for that matter) need a gentle reminder or a little nudge to help them make powerful choices in their learning experiences. They are enthusiastic learners who get easily excited about school, especially when learning tools are involved. I brag about my students in the way that a proud parent brags about their children.
Our class is very unique and special because they have such an eagerness for learning.
They become overly excited when new books are added to our existing collection of classroom library, or when scented crayons and markers, or new pencils are included in their tool kits. Since my students love learning and enjoy using new tools I am constantly looking to add new ideas and materials into our classroom. By nurturing their excitement I know I can help grow our future leaders.
My Project
Counting matters! My students need opportunities to count items in order to develop efficient strategies to use when counting and to develop a strong base in number sense. Having a strong foundation in number sense will best prepare them for future math challenges in more advanced math such as algebra and calculus. More importantly, having confidence in math will inspire some to seek engineering jobs that require proficiency in math. Often times I hear my students, especially the girls declare that they are not "good" at math. By providing many counting opportunities and sustaining encouragement, I can dismantle the perpetuation of negative stereotypes.
By having items that the children can count they will be given the chance to sort items based on size, color, or any characteristic and make a decision on how to group them when counting.
If they have items that are readily available and that look inviting they will be motivated to count collections and develop their number sense skills.
