My Project
Counting money, whether bills or coins is a challenging life skill for all students. My students come from the Middle East to our small community of Hamtramck, Michigan. There is a couple of challenges students face; identifying the US coins and then knowing how much the coin is worth, in both dollars and cent notation. ($ .53 or 53 cents).
The goal of this project is to make real-life connections "future employment" to school in a fun and creative way.
This is a skill that will assist them in their first job as a cashier at a local store or family business. Who knows this skill could inspire a future accountant or business owner and wouldn't that be AMAZING!
This project will purchase realistic plastic coins, money puzzles, and two games in which students will be counting money & giving change in real-life scenarios.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
