Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Monday through Friday, I come prepared to teach wonderful and capable groups of students. They are bright-eyed, eager learners who are our future doctors, lawyers, engineers, and leaders.
Our students need access to fun and interesting items to count that will strengthen their number sense.
A variety of objects to use for counting collections will develop students' one-to-one correspondence, cardinality, and number sequence. This will increase students' facility with numbers and deepen their understanding of math calculations. Furthermore, counting collections are engaging activities that will promote flexible thinking with numbers. As students gain comfort and familiarity with them, their confidence level and motivation for math will increase.
Counting collections will enable students to work both independently and in groups. During this time, students will share their thinking about how they grouped, organized, and counted their collections. This will allow students to talk about math as a language while creating meaning and understanding from their hands-on experience.
