Counters for Hands-on Learning of Multiplication

My Project

I serve as a math interventionist, working in a Title 1 school, serving students from many different backgrounds. As a math interventionist, I work with classroom teachers to provide scaffolds and support for learners in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.

My goal for this project is to start to build a manipulative library that will allow teachers to check out hands-on materials to use with their students.

This project includes counters that are engaging to students including sea creatures, gems, dinosaurs, and so much more. The materials in this project can be utilized by myself and other 3rd and 4th grade teachers to support math learning in the classroom. The counters will be used to help students visually represent multiplication and division, using the counters to show arrays or equal groups. In 3rd and 4th grade, I also imagine using materials to support concepts of fractions and creating sets.
