My Students
Imagine going to school and not being able to read accurately or spell on grade level. These are just a few challenges that students in my classroom are faced with every day. However, with the use of technology, their learning challenges become easier and they start to realize learning is fun! All students in my room are special needs students with intensive reading, writing, and mathematical deficits. My school is adored by students, parents, community, and teachers. My precious students come from the neighborhood surrounding our Louisiana school. Each student has a unique background, set of needs, and learning style. We are lucky to service the military base nearby, so military kiddos make up a large percentage of our student population! My students are hard working and always persevere. Our school provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment.
The students I teach are amazing in every way and deserve the very best education and materials!
My Project
Each child in my class is special needs and requires accommodations to excel educationally. Each student requires the assistance of a calculator on their IEP. Unfortunately, the calculators we have access to aren't all the same, which makes it difficult when trying to teach calculator skills. It also doesn't work well because they don't test with the same calculators they use in the classroom. This leads to confusion during test time, and I am afraid students don't produce true results this way! Which is so unfortunate because I know they could do better. They just need the right conditions and tools to do so! My students also need a Chromebook for class instruction. Students will use the Chromebook to type their work instead of writing it out. This will help them with fine motor skills and spelling since they can use spell check. Students will have access to Google Read and Write to help accommodate their writing. Thanks for your support!
