My Students

I teach in a small, urban school with a diverse population. It is composed of two hundred and sixty students in grades PreK- Grade 4. My students come from low socio-economic backgrounds, which all qualify for free school breakfast and lunch. Forty percent of the school community come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken.

My Project

Students do not learn enough real world skills in the classroom. It's important that students understand the value of money at a young age. This kit will help students understand the value of money, will help them count money and calculate change! This is a necessary skill for personal financial responsibility -- let's start learning now! I intend on setting up a "classroom store" where students can purchase items given a specific budget. Students will have rotating jobs as shoppers, cashiers, and market researchers to determine pricing. This kit will allow engagement which always fosters learning!
