My Students
My students may be small, but they abound with joy and curiosity! I teach a 2nd grade class with a Resource/Special Education inclusion cluster in a Title I school. In addition to students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, I have kids who are refugees from war-torn countries or who have experienced trauma at home, which makes it more difficult for them to excel academically.
In our classroom, kids enthusiastically collaborate and support each other regardless of their differences.
Their compassion and excitement in working together constantly motivates me to find resources which can challenge and engage them in strategic problem-solving at every level. With technology, I am able to bring different learning opportunities to my students, but it is never the same as being able to interact with the world and with their families through hands-on experiences.
My Project
I would like to create a lending library of math games that can easily be shared by students and their parents at home, overcoming economic or language barriers to help our children reach their full potential, together. Many of our families cannot afford basic necessities, much less academic games and resources for their children.
With this project, you're giving students the opportunity to build their math skills, and also giving families the chance to joyfully participate in their child's development.
Raising the next generation is a shared responsibility. When families authentically engage in their children’s education, students see the value of their own learning and take great pride in their efforts. Positive partnerships between school and home improve our students' lives, and when children are successful, the entire community benefits.
