Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the only school counselor for over 600 amazing students. Ninety percent of our students are Latino, and 76% are from low-income families. About 11% of our students are considered special needs. Our students are bright and creative and come from hard-working, loving families that want to see their children succeed.
Not being physically in school has been a challenge for many students, families, and teachers, but we are all trying the best we can with what we have.
My Project
Our school district started the school year with remote learning. This has been very challenging for some of our students and their families. Students miss being at school. They miss their teachers, they miss their friends, and they miss their regular routine. In a couple weeks, some of our students will return to in person learning, while some of our students will continue learning remotely. I will be teaching those students simultaneously.
No matter where students are, my goal is to provide meaningful engagement for students online while at the same time providing a rich in-person learning environment.
To adapt to teaching students remotely and in person, I am requesting a portable media cart with a locking cabinet. The media cart will allow me to take my own technology (laptop and projector) to classrooms to give presentations while teaching students in person and remotely. With the locking cabinet, I will be able to store my technology safely in one place and be ready to go to the next class.
Teaching online and in person may seem impossible, but having this portable media cart is essential in having our lessons go smoothly and to ensure all students are successful.
