Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Everyday in jobs across the country, professionals are asked to real and analyze nonfiction readings, yet in the classroom, we have students read so much fiction! Our students need to expand their knowledge of the world and read more non-fiction!

The students in my class are honestly the best in the country!

They come from all different walks of life and have experienced more hardships and challenges in their short 13 years than most do in their entire life. These students want to and WILL go to college! They are incredibly hard working, driven, and motivated group of young people. The public charter school they attend is very rigorous and prepares the students for the best high schools in town and getting them to and through college.

My Project

Nonfiction literature is something that is scarcely seen in the classroom today but students need to be exposed to nonfiction reading! There is so much to learn from the world and best way to gain that knowledge is to read it, and non-fiction is the best way! Research says it's essential for children to read for more than 90 minutes a day and these students need more books, specifically nonfiction, to meet that 90 minutes! When students read nonfiction, they learn about the world that is beyond the walls of their classroom or the crossroads of their neighborhood. Please help these students make their dreams or to and through college a reality!

My students need more non-fiction texts to prepare them for high school and college.

I am fortunate to teach the most incredible young men and women in Ohio, and they desperately need more resources for making their dreams of going to and through college a reality.
