FULLY FUNDED! Ms. A.'s classroom raised $438
This project is fully funded
Throughout history artists have used models wearing costumes to come up with ideas for portraits. A major example is the Dutch master Rembrandt, who spent so much money on costumes for his models that he could barely afford to feed his family. Please help my students have the opportunity to draw each other in costume as part of a portrait lesson!
I am the art teacher for over 850 students at a year round elementary school in Wake County, NC. Along with the rest of my curriculum, I teach drawing from observation to my students. We often pair up and play "artist/model," where students take turns modeling for each other and drawing each other. Students invent elaborate backgrounds for their classmates' portraits. I would like to do a bit more with this lesson by allowing my students to dress up in costumes while they are modeling. I think this would jump start their imaginations and help them to create some really memorable portraits. I have started my costume collection, but all I have right now are a few plastic fire fighter hats and a feathered boa! My vision is a dresser full of hats and costumes that students can use to put together a portait modeling session that they will never forget. So that the costumes would be used to their fullest potential, I plan to make the costumes available for the music teacher to use as well when she puts on performances at school. I hope that you will help me to find the little Rembrandts in my classroom by contributing to the first portion of my proposal, which includes 8 multicultural costumes, a set of 7 dress up hats, and a set of make beleive capes and hats.
