This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Performing plays, story reenactments and improvising on "stage" help my students express themselves, as well as begin to love the art of theater! Help us make these performances brighter with proper materials to make scenery and decorate costumes with.

I am a teacher in a school that services students who come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles low income housing complexes.

My students are some of the most creative 1st graders you can ever meet. They are smart enthusiastic learners who enjoy learning and listening to stories read to them.

My Project

My students need help expressing feelings, thoughts and ideas. Knowing this, I incorporate theater arts in my classroom as often as possible. My students love to perform their favorite stories in the class. I read many books but certain books become very popular with my them. I then either make a script for them to act out or let them improvise as they act out their favorite scenes. By doing this, I notice that they not only develop better communication skills but begin to understand and love theater arts. We need a Silhouette cutting machine, vinyl in a variety of colors and blades to cut different icons and designs to decorate scenery and costumes. Having specially designed costumes and scenery for each play, will make my students feel that their performances are a bit more "professional." They currently love theater arts but with the proper "props" and costumes I know they will ABSOLUTELY love performing and theater arts time even more!
