Costume Trim Needed for School Musical

Help me give my students sewing trim to help create beautiful costumes for our school musical! We will need very specific colors as the musical states the color multiple times.

My Students

My students are enrolled in an inner-city, very diverse school. We have over 40 languages represented. Approximately 67% of students are on free or reduced price lunch waivers. On the other side of the economic status, we have very affluent families' children enrolled. We teach anything from English as a Second Language students to International Baccalaureate, honors and AP students, to severely disabled students.

My students are enrolled in the Theatre Foundations courses, Play Productions, Stage Craft and IB Theatre classes.

They work to interpret, characterize, and present theatre in all of its forms. These students are working hard to present a school musical in November. We have approximately 200 students participating through dance, acting and technical theatre.

My Project

This trim will help create the effect desired by students in their school musical. They would like to show a glamorous era and a reason why the rest of the "land" finds this city particularly fascinating. These will be used for the chorus, therefore there will be at least 25-30 costumes that will be needed.

The students will be adding the trim to costumes they make or find to help give the feel of the 1920's fashion of flappers and zoot suits.

The student designer will have several other students helping to add this trim. With this assignment, the students will learn how to use a sewing machine and hand stitching techniques that will hold up to a lot of movement. The effect will give the actors a stronger character, presence and importance in their role on stage.
