Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school provides the basic supplies students need to be successful. But it does not have money for certain items, like balance ball chairs, and if an essential tool breaks, students may have to go without that tool. We need your help to obtain a new pencil sharpener and junction box.

I teach a very diverse group of students.

Culturally, they have roots in Mexico, Central and South America, India, the Philippines, Korea, Egypt, Nigeria, and various parts of the United States. Twelve of my twenty-three students are English language learners. Many of my students come from working class families who have limited resources to invest in their educations. Despite that challenge, my students' parents are involved in their children's educations and my students work hard and are extremely eager to learn.

My Project

I am requesting essential tools which my students will use daily to facilitate their learning. The electric pencil sharpener you help fund will replace our current sharpener, which is nearing the end of its usable life. It will insure that my students have sharpened pencils when they need them. The listening center junction box will replace our old junction box which now only works sporadically. It will allow my students to continue to enjoy Read-Along books as they continue to build their English listening, speaking, and reading skills. Last, some of my students need an alternative to a chair in order to focus on learning. The research I have read shows that balance ball chairs can do that. I currently, have one in my classroom and have seen first hand the power of balance balls to help specials needs students focus. It would be wonderful to have four more chairs for my students to use!
