This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a Fourth/Fifth grade, self-contained, special education classroom in a high poverty neighborhood in the South Bronx.
The students have been classified learning disabled or speech impaired.
Many of the students are English Language Learners, and all are performing several years below grade level in all subject areas. While the students and the school face many of the challenges that seem to come with a high poverty neighborhood, the students are happy, motivated, and the school does a great job, under the circumstances of creating a safe, comfortable haven in the midst of periodic violence and chaos.
My Project
The students in my classroom use and access computers every day as part of their learning. They have learned how to research topics on the Internet, write amazing stories using Word, and create incredible presentations using Powerpoint.
The only thing is, we don't have a printer in the classroom to print out all of this wonderful work!
The students do not have access to computers and printers at home, so I end up printing their projects using my home printer which is starting to suffer from the overuse!
A dedicated classroom printer will help the students learn how to use technology while also allowing them to print the projects and work they are so proud of. Being able to print color copies will allow us to decorate our classroom with their colorful designs and ideas!
