We need a printer, ink and flash drives for our classroom, and we are tired of waiting for the teacher to print out papers. If we have our own printer in our classroom, we can print out immediately.
The students in my inner city high school are in Special Education and have intellectual disabilities. They are interested in continuing their writing, which is a milestone, because they don't like to write. The students think a printer will motivate them to write more.
I always ask the students what materials they want for our classroom. As a whole class, they decided they wanted a printer to have in our own classroom. The kids are beginning to write more so they decided they needed flash drives too. The kids got to browse through the shopping websites through Donors Choose and picked out a nice printer that also scans and copies as well. They were excited to order extra ink for future projects.
Through our vocational educational programming for our students with intellectual disabilities, students have the opportunity to work at our district printing center. With having this printer in our classroom, they will learn the basic functioning of the printer, how to load paper, change the ink cartridges, and work together. The students will have the opportunity to complete classwork, save it to their flash drives, then send it to the new printer to complete their work.
In Their Own Words
We want a printer for our classroom so we can see our work right after we do it. We have a new reading program that we write a lot in and if we had flash drives we could save our work then send it to the printer. We could add pictures and print them out in color too.
We are excited to hopefully get the new printer for our papers.
When it comes to choosing projects for Donors Choose, our teacher usually asks us what we want for the classroom. This time we asked our teacher if we could choose our own topic. She said yes. She began the work on Donors Choose for us then she let us go shopping all on our own. We chose the HP printer because it prints, copies, and can scan pages. We really want a printer so our teacher doesn't have to keep running back and forth down the hall to the school printer.
This HP printer will help us because now we will be able to type, save on the flash drives, and print out our work right away.
The printer will save our teacher time so she doesn't have to save our class papers, take them to her computer, then send them to the big machine down the hall.
This printer will let us print in color and maybe we will let our teacher hang up our papers up in the hallway now.
