My Students
There's nothing like having tangible evidence of a job well done. Our entire grade level has created cooperative groups based on temperament and not ability. It is working out well, but we don't have any proof!
As a 2nd grade teacher my students are still at a stage where the world is a wonder to them.
I would love for them to capture those moments despite the day-to day issues they must face as impoverished children. I am currently teaching a diverse group of students whose families are considered at or below the poverty line. Dire straits would be an understatement when describing the socioeconomic needs. They are however rich in ideas and spirit. Ideas and spirit I would love for them to capture on film using these FLIP cameras and printed on the HP photo-printer!
My Project
When working in these hybrid groups so many new ideas have been generated and products that have been produced. My idea is that now the weather is breaking that this same vigor can be used outdoors and the groups can capture scenes in and around their environment and make commentaries about them. The cameras and the Hewlett Packard printer will bring the outdoors in and open up a new world of collaborative writing and reporting for my 2nd graders.
The power of expression is underrated.
I believe that harnessing the students with the tools to more effectively express themselves will make them more vocal and advance their problem solving skills. My hope is that you will fund this project and provide my students with cameras and HP products they need to succeed.
