My Students
I have 29 third grade students who would do STEM projects all day. They absolutely love it! I love it because they are learning the steps to the STEM process and how to communicate with each other. Many of my students don't feel accepted by others and need friends. My main concern at the start of this school year is that they all feel safe and know that they have a classroom of friends.
STEM activities are great ways for them to learn to listen and accept others' ideas as they come to a consensus on the best way to solve a problem.
As they learn to work together, my hope is that they will learn to play together.
My Project
My plan is to integrate STEM as much as possible in my classroom this year. These STEM kits are a great way for students to think like a scientist and engineer. Students will receive materials, with minimal instruction, and the creative building begins!
Through these STEM kits, my students will learn to work together.
They will learn to communicate and be open to trying other classmates' ideas. These kits include STEM activities for 8+ weeks of learning. By the time students have completed each of these activities, they will have had a chance to work with all of their classmates. My hope is that by learning to work well and communicate with each other through STEM, my students will learn to appreciate each of their classmates and we will have a community of friendship, respect, and cooperation.
These kits will also help them learn the process of STEM building. They will learn to ask questions, make a plan, imagine the possibilities, and create and improve their plans, all while communicating with each other. They then will be able to share ideas with each other and see all the different ways a problem can be solved. With these kits I can integrate STEM into our everyday learning. I look forward to being able to grow a close knit community of learners with the help of these STEM kits.
