Help me give my students the opportunity to learn cooperative play through games! I am requesting a variety or card games, learning games, fine motor games, and board games to enhance our weekly "Fun Friday" time.
Our school is an Artful Learning school with a focus on the performing arts. Our students access the curriculum and state standards through arts based strategies and projects. This year we have partnered with our local university to provide additional experiences in the arts which include dance, yoga, drums, pottery, tumbling, keyboarding, and violin, among others. Our students are excited about having the opportunity to participate in learning experiences they may not have otherwise.
Our students come from low socioeconomic households with a variety of challenges that often impede their ability to succeed in the classroom.
The basic needs of our student often go unmet outside of the school doors. Many students deal with behavioral issues as a result of trauma, stress, or other emotional disabilities. Our students deserve to feel the sense of pride that comes with overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.
Each week in my classroom my students get to participate in "Fun Friday". They use money they have earned from our classroom economy to pay for their participation in "Fun Friday". During this time each Friday, they have a variety of STEM building materials available, as well as some board games. Our current selection of games is limited, and I would like to make "Fun Friday" more exciting by having more options for games. This is also a fantastic opportunity to teach problem solving, cooperation, and sportsmanship, which are skills that I have noticed are significantly lacking in my students.
With a variety of games available, I will be able to introduce a new game each week to keep students excited and engaged.
This is also a great opportunity to build classroom community. I am certain my students will love learning new games and playing with their friends each week! Additionally, we can use the educational games in small groups to reinforce academic concepts in a fun way. My students love reviewing and practicing material through games.
