This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a licensed math teacher. The Title I school I work at is filled with English Language Learners. It would be great to acquire a few fans for our classroom. In the warm months the students cannot focus on their assignments due to the extreme heat our 100+ year old building absorbs.
The children that I encounter on a day to day basis are faced with insurmountable obstacles.
Some live in shelters, others have parents who are incarcerated, siblings in gangs, etc. Often they are stressed and frustrated with their environment. My children come to me when they need an outlet for their frustration. Often they have trouble expressing themselves which only adds to their aggravation and many struggle to find an appropriate way to deal with their feelings.
My Project
Since the school building is so old, this means that much of the electrical wiring is out-of-date, and therefore cannot support air-conditioning units in the classrooms. Some fans placed around the classroom will cool the kids off and keep them alert and comfortable so that they can do their best.
The end of the year is a stressful time for both students and teachers. With standardized state tests and final exams, fans could help create a comfortable classroom environment. Your donations of some fans to our class will improve the learning environment and help my students continue to stay focused on their success.
Providing my students with fans for our classroom would help them continue learning math in a comfortable environment.
