Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have come from many different parts of the world including Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and the United States. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends.
At our school, 96% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 92% of the students are students of color.
The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language. These students have the capacity to achieve greatness.
My Project
Our school is a performing arts magnet; to that end, we place a high priority on integrating the arts into our classroom. We do art projects during school, including visual, performing and musical arts. Now we need to expand this learning to our homework. My students have so much passion for learning and for creating, and we need more opportunities to expand our perspectives and our creativity. These art kits are just the ticket.
Every week, three students will bring home one of these awesome art kits to create with their families as homework.
They will write a short summary of their experience and share it with the class. By having more access to a variety of art-focused activities at home, my students will develop their creativity and critical thinking skills. There is a wide variety of kits involved in this project, including: shadow puppets, make-your-own-markers, clay charms, sand painting and sewing projects. Students will be learning new techniques, problem-solving skills and enjoying creating with their families.
These art kits will give my students an incredible opportunity to practice art with their families. With these activities, we will continue to develop our creative minds and build a stronger community. Thank you for considering our project!
