This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Visiting our classroom you'd see engaged learners, student-led projects and a lot of creativity. Having enough materials for so many students and having a wide range of materials to meet student requests are challenges but necessary to keep students motivated and learning.
My students come from all different backgrounds and experiences.
They are bright, motivated and love to learn and one of the most exciting parts of our day is "Tinker Time" in which students deconstruct old appliances, experiment with design and create models and machines. Our school is a small, urban school in the heart of our community. We serve students from different types of families, diverse backgrounds, and many different challenges. The students in my classroom have shown academic talent in their classrooms and join me one day a week for rigorous content, problem-solving and open-ended projects. Each day of the week, I see a different grade level, so students often share ideas, build on each other's work and form relationships across grade levels.
My Project
These tools and kits will allow my students, from Kindergarten through 5th grade, to experiment, problem solve and create. The Snap Circuit kits will give students real-world connection to Physical Science standards. Students will have a safe way to build different circuits and expand their knowledge of the flow of electrons.
The tool sets are for deconstructing appliances and constructing new creations. These resources will give children the power to learn by doing and build knowledge in a memorable and exciting way.
Bringing Science and Engineering to life for students is so inspiring as a teacher.
Donations to this project will help to build future physicists, electricians and engineers. I am excited to bring these materials into out "Tinker Time" so that students can continue to build confidence, knowledge and real-world skills.
