My students need lots of engaging learning materials such as audio books, phonemic awareness tools and number games so that their math and literacy skills can sky rocket!
I teach 20 enthusiastic learners at a Title I school in Seattle, WA. My students come from diverse home experiences as the neighborhood around our inner city school is gentrifying but still includes low income housing and homeless shelters. Students as young as 5 come from very unequal beginnings. Our kindergarten classroom is a melting pot of socio-economic groups and cultures but regardless of these differences, I've witnessed how all kids benefit from an organized and engaging learning environment. My job is to help students develop healthy habits and positive learning behaviors so that regardless of where they came from or who they aspire to one day become, they will be equipped to get there!
My Project
I have selected an assortment of literacy and math games and materials that are just right for my Kindergarten Learners. These are all resources that will not only help the students meet and exceed grade level standards but will also, and maybe more importantly, inspire my students to love learning!
The students in my class have already proven that they respect and cherish our classroom community and all of the materials and resources that it holds.
I know that my students will love using all of the materials that I have selected! They will have new math games to help them learn number sense, place value and early concepts of addition and subtraction. These activities can be self selected by students to accommodate their learning needs and interests.
The literacy games, audio books and activities will help my students build phonemic awareness and start to put letter sounds together to read and spell words. Some of the activities include little trinkets and fun manipulatives that make learning beginning and ending sounds exciting for young learners . I am requesting engaging non-fiction audio books so that students can practice reading text to learn new things about the world around them. I can't wait to see all of these materials in use!
