Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very bright and eager-to-learn kindergartners who attend a public school in the heart of the city of Chicago in the Humboldt Park Area. All of the students receive free lunch, and our school district is making record breaking and heartbreaking cuts to the budget. The students are truly suffering. The majority of students in our school are below grade level and also below poverty level. They come from homes where education is not a priority, but they come to school ready and eager to dive right in and learn.
My Project
We are limited on space in our classroom and we are always tripping over the regular chairs that take up the guided reading table. Our students need colorful Mammut stools to brighten up our classroom and give them a special and space effective area to sit during our guided reading time. In addition to awesome seating, we need primary journals to work on our writing. The wide width lines are not age appropriate for my kindergartners and these journals will help my students organize their thoughts and have a special place to illustrate their writing while we are working in our guided reading groups.
