Cool Robotics Club Cultivates Kid Computer Coders!
My students need a Vex Robotics Kit to grow our school robotics club by engaging more young, curious minds!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Landazuri's classroom raised $426

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I pledge allegiance to myself and who I want to be..." Each day, we begin our class with a promise that helps my students focus on what they want to do and to learn today to make their future dreams a reality. It's a reminder that we start each day with a positive attitude. We know that there will be challenges, but we also know that we can handle them. We can't control our circumstances, but we do control how we respond to them.
"I can't wait to make a mistake!" From day one, we foster a safe community of learners in our room.
If a student doesn't feel comfortable, they won't try anything new. We are all learners, and support each other in taking risks and making mistakes, because we know that is where the real learning happens. Ours is a Title I school, serving a largely immigrant, Latino population, in a densely-populated urban city. Statistically destined to drop out before they complete high school, my students aspire to go beyond the stereotypes, and be the first college graduates in their family. There are no shortcuts!
My Project
Students in this area don't often get exposed to robotics and coding. It has become something that sets them back. We're taking proactive steps to not only expose them to these fields but enable them to develop their skills now at an early age. We are in the first year of our Heliotrope Robotics Club, and the interest is overwhelming.
As young scientists and engineers, they view the world around them differently.
Scientists constantly seek the truth and engineers seek to solve problems in their world. The new perspectives inform everything they do outside of robotics. I really enjoy watching them discuss their ideas, test them out, and then revise to overcome challenges and improve their designs.
This project allows us to get another robotics kit, the Vex Robotics Kit, in order to expand the program. Small groups of students get to design and build each robot. But, with additional resources, the club serves more students across grade levels. The students have designed robots and solved problems this year in ways that blow me away. They have the interest and ability, they just need to get connected to resources and opportunities to really take off.
