My Students
Help give the children more seats to sit on in the Cozy Corner. Who would have thought that children are fighting over who will go to this area to read a good book?
This class is a group of first graders from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who attend a city school.
There are 20 children in the class. Three of the children are from another country and speak very little English. The Cozy Corner is a place where the children feel comfortable to look at a good book.
My Project
Providing a canopy that would hang above the Cozy Corner will provide such a beautiful, comfortable place for the children to read a good book. I will be able to expand the area allowing more children to sit by adding some bean bags. The children that are struggling with reading or becoming frustrated tend to sit in this area and relax. This is a place where I can have my fifth grade tutors sit and work with the children on sight words.
By providing an inviting area for the children to sit and read a book will help create voracious readers in the first grade classroom.
This will be an area where the students will want to pick a friend and read to. This area will build confidence for those that don't like to read.
