My 2nd graders attend a collaborative, diverse, and creative public school in Brooklyn, NY. We teach our students to be intellectually curious learners, socially responsible citizens, and dynamic problem solvers.
Some of the students in my class have a variety of learning styles, needs, and behaviors, and creating a more comfortable and organized learning environment for them is my ultimate goal.
In order for my students to be as successful, motivated, and engaged as possible, I want to create a comfortable, accessible, colorful, and organized environment in which they can explore, create and challenge themselves.
My Project
Some of the students in my class have varying learning/behavioral needs, and having a classroom environment that is more organized, calm, and relaxing will help them maximize their potential and productivity!
I have requested a variety of comfortable seating choices to be able to provide as many options for my students who have trouble focusing and sitting still, color-coded organizational tools to help my students with executive function needs, and a cd player and calming music to assist my students who need a calming break.
Varied seating options will provide a space for quiet buddy work, color-coded organizational tools will allow students to easily access what they need when based on the color-subject match, and my students who have focusing challenges will be able to recollect themselves in our calm corner, in which we'll use a boombox and classical music to allow them to re-center. I am excited to implement these new tools into my classroom to provide an engaging, calm, and creative learning environment!
