My Project
A calming corner is essential for our special education classroom as it provides a dedicated calming space for students to regulate their emotions and sensory needs. Many of our students experience heightened anxiety and sensory overload, which can impact their ability to focus and engage in learning. My hope is to create a safe haven where students can retreat, decompress, and return to their studies more centered and ready to learn. This addition will not only support individual well-being but also foster a positive classroom environment, enhancing overall student success.
When faced with overwhelming emotions or sensory input, students can use this designated area to engage in calming activities, such as deep breathing, mindfulness exercises, or sensory play.
This not only helps them de-escalate in the moment but also teaches them valuable skills for managing their emotions independently. Over time, students will learn to recognize their triggers and develop personalized strategies to cope with stress, leading to increased confidence, improved behavior, and a greater ability to participate in classroom activities. Ultimately, a calming corner fosters emotional resilience and enhances the overall learning experience.
