This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I have started changing the theme in my classroom from bright rainbow colors to a cooler, calmer color scheme. Research shows that bright outrageous coloring can create problems in a classroom having to do with behavior and attention. Kindergarten is a time when students are learning how to behave in a school setting and having these bright colors can be distracting. I have noticed that behavior and the attention spans of my students are getting significantly worse and I am curious to see if changing the colors I use in my classroom will help this.
Students need their environment to be cool, calm, and collected for them to be cool, calm and collected.
I would like these materials so I can create this environment for them. This project includes items like a new rug for the students to sit on that is cooler colors, pocket charts that are not so bright, and erasers for our whiteboard tables that are meant to work better than the ones we have this year. I also included a step stool for students to reach the sink in the classroom and some cool colored decorations to place around the room to give the classroom and comfortable, homey feeling where students get excited to come.
