Cooks and Books: Celebrating Math and Literacy

My Project

As a culminating activity for Math Awareness Month (April), our Math Coach and I are planning a virtual Cooks and Books event. I will be working with second and third grade students and families over Zoom to celebrate math and literacy. During this event, I will read aloud the book, "Short and Sweet', by Josh Funk. Students will have the ability to participate in trivia quizzes and discussions related to math and the book we read together. We will then wrap up the evening by making a Greek Yogurt Apple Dip. Through all of these activities, students will build a love of literacy and make connections to many ways we use math in our daily lives.

I would love for my students have their own copy of the book in order for them to follow along as I read aloud.

The students will then have this book to add to their personal home libraries to reread to themselves or other family members. Providing students with a brand new book will help build a love of literacy and help the students remember the learning they achieved through our Cooks and Books event.
